Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company - Jacopo Godani

Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company ::Triple Bill

From 6 - 11 December the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company will be presenting a Tripple Bill with the choreographies Girls Dance, Postgenoma and High Breed by Jacopo Godani at HELLERAU - European Centre for the Arts in Dresden.

In Postgenoma, abyssal creatures lurk on stage creating a universe on its own with a unique pas de deux. The human animal – haunted by its ghosts, sometimes terrified, and concealing itself – refuses to die away and, even having been trained so strongly to not show its real nature, is constantly reappearing, unlearning all imposed boundaries and squirming against the pressure of any given beauty norms. In Postgenoma, Godani is working once again with the composer duo 48nord, who have provided the choreogaphy with a fascinating horizon articulated using electronic music.

In Girls Dance, body attitude metamorphoses the outside shell of the performers into a narrative: a fragile body with a dangerous face. Blending classical shapes and extreme aesthetics, Girls Dance appeals for us to question our values of beauty, to create space for other kind of beauty, to re-evaluate the current concepts of beauty in society, to re-imagine what we can perceive as beauty, and finally, to allow our vision on it . In the body´s quest to accomplish its own loyalty in movement lies a theatricality. In the choreographic actions of Girls Dance lies a harmony and, in the assembly of choreographic material lies a freedom of independence, even a sentimental independency in this female Tour de force.

High Breed could be considered an ideological work, in the sense that it makes idea-forms visible. As a giver of shape who wants to bring viewers into the dance experience, Jacopo Godani attempts to escape from the imaginable, to go beyond it, and in his way, he creates an intriguing darkness: a realm in which potentiality emerges beyond light. A blazing display of boldness, High Breed is a fundamental creation whose use of light and darkness is an artistic means by which a something else can be brought into visibility, because something has been set free choreographically. With a physical intensity, rich in action and in exactitude – virtually mathematical in its precision, Godani reveals the quintessence of the company’s identity.
