Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company - Jacopo Godani

Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company ::High Breed

High Breed

High Breed could be considered an ideological work, in the sense that it makes idea-forms visible. As a giver of shape who wants to bring viewers into the dance experience, Jacopo Godani attempted with this choreography to escape from the imaginable, to go beyond it, and in this way, he created an intriguing darkness: a realm in which potentiality emerges beyond light.

Because for High Breed to be beyond possibles, it must find itself freed of limited choreographic restrictions. And following that course, Godani negotiates, not only with the choreography, but also with the spaces between those ghostly images he creates and pure abstraction. Glimpses of figures moving in the shadows, silhouettes appearing and disappearing, spectres lurking in a thick penumbra while out of nowhere, dancers step to existence within a field of light. The choreographer is interested in a performance, but as well, in the world this performance conjures.

A blazing display of boldness, High Breed is a fundamental creation whose use of light and darkness is an artistic means by which a something else can be brought into visibility, because something has been set free choreographically. With a physical intensity, rich in action and in exactitude – virtually mathematical in its precision, Godani reveals the quintessence of the company’s identity. By forgoing the superficial and emphasizing a masterful knowledge of technique, the spectator experiences choreography as a signature event in the truest sense of that word.
