Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company - Jacopo Godani

The Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade reopened its doors to the Serbian public and the international art scene on October 20^th 2017, after 10 years of being closed due to its reconstruction.

Jacopo Godani and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company have been invited as guests by Slobodan Nakarada, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade and Aja Jung, Director of the Belgrade Dance Festival, to play a key role in this event. Thanks to the passion, commitment, and presence of these incredible figures, this international collaboration with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Ivan Tasovac, and the Belgrade Dance Festival has been made possible.

Godani staged Extinctions as a unique appearance for the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade. A series of "living tableaux" in which dancers of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company embodied Godani´s artistic images on the first day of the public opening.
These "tableaux" bring to life a prophetic world with a corporeal power that permeates the atmosphere of the Museum. They remind us of antiquity, of mythical creatures, and of cyborg-fauns lurking in the space while godlike beings whisper in unknown tongues. The outside shell of the performers is transformed into a narrative: a fragile body with a dangerous face. Extinctions is thought of as an artifact that centres on the human body. The body as a means to further an aesthetic resistance in an artistic space.  Blending classical shapes and extreme concepts, it appeals to us to question our values of beauty, to create space for other kinds of beauty, to re-evaluate the current concepts of beauty in society, to re-imagine what we can perceive as beauty, and finally, to allow ourselves to envision this future.
