Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company - Jacopo Godani

Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company and Ensemble Modern invite the audience to get close. As in a rehearsal room, the performance space makes it possible for viewers to immerse themselves in the happenings onstage. Thanks to this intimacy, the audience becomes a part of the artistic process.
 

Jacopo Godani has created three radically different worlds in which orchestra and dance, choreographic work and musical composition meet in a series of singular relationships. In Stormo, Metamorphers and Satelliting, three separate universes arise, all defined by intimacy, refinement and finesse.
 

Stormo is the physical fusion of orchestra and dance, manifested in real time. Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company and Ensemble Modern share the performance space, working both with and against each other. The result is a spontaneous choreography to Johannes Motschmann’s composition Attack Decay. For the first time, the audience can experience two conductors onstage, one for the music and one for the movement. The choreographic and musical scores converge during this appealing live experiment: In Stormo choreography becomes music and music choreography.   
 

In Metamorphers, set to Béla Bartók’s String Quartet No. 4, Godani constructs a traditional choreographic work in which music, dance, rhythm and melody resonate as one. He makes the score’s puzzle visible. He playfully combines naturalness and spontaneity, using it to generate a vast reservoir of highly evolved choreographic material. Metamorphers is without doubt a musical creation in which dance becomes the music’s melody.
 

In Satelliting, an esthetic world of images, floating costumes, fragile lights, etheric creatures and magic moments comes alive in the dark, surrounding and simultaneously embracing the audience. Five parts of Johannes Schöllhorn’s subtle composition Anamorphoses provide Godani with a one-of-a-kind structure for conjuring up this exceptional atmosphere. The choreographer invites viewers to enter into a state of contemplation, allowing them to move forward together with his artistic vision.
 

Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company meets Ensemble Modern focuses on the audience’s experience. It presents an opportunity to perceive the details, take in the quintessential and experience refinement and finesse in close proximity to the artists.
