Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company - Jacopo Godani

Frankfurt Dresden Dance Company ::Dance Digital

Jacopo Godani and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company are presenting a weekend of dance streamed online! Experience numerous choreographic highlights by Godani during the stream and join in the dancing yourself in one or more of the workshops.

FRIDAY, 18 NOVEMBER
7.30 pm Welcome & Online Showing of Al Di Là and High Breed
Two exceptional works by Jacopo Godani will be presented during this two-part evening. In Al Di Là, Godani creates an entirely new context for Schönberg’s musical composition Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night). Using a unique combination of choreography, set design and costumes, he invites the public to imagine a whole new world. The piece High Breed is characterized by its powerful formal vocabulary and physical intensity. The interplay of light and shadow produces a fascinating obscurity that draws viewers intensely into the dance experience.

SATURDAY, 19 NOVEMBER
11.30 am Workshop – Improvisation and Choreography
This Zoom workshop with Education Manager Manuel Gaubatz is meant for anyone who has a desire to dance and wants to learn the basics of Jacopo Godani’s choreographic work. We will explore different methods of improvisation and then break out into small online groups to create our own choreographies. For beginners and experienced dancers.

7.30 pm Introduction & Online-Showing of ALTER EGO
Godani translates the forceful, exaggerated techniques used in works such as Nosferatu and Metropolis into contemporary choreography, replete with the films’ extremity, power, even their bizarre spookiness. This engagement with 100-year-old classics remains a fascinating field of experimentation – and brings the company even closer to its own essence. Godani’s artistic self-definition is characterized by physical expression and its wide-ranging possibilities, including alienation, amplification, overstatement and exaggeration.

SUNDAY, 20 NOVEMBER
11 am Workshop – Ballet for Beginners
Have you always wanted to try classical ballet? This Zoom workshop with ballet master Armin Frauenschuh will introduce you to the basic positions and typical sequences for beginners from 9 to 99 years of age. The techniques explored remain the basic routine for many professional dancers today, regardless of whether they perform traditional ballets or contemporary pieces. During the workshop, participants will learn how dancers prepare for their professional activities and how they stay in shape.

5 pm Meet&Greet with Dancers from the Company
Are there things you’ve always wanted to know about being a dancer? Some members of the ensemble will talk about their everyday lives, answering your questions about how the company works and its current productions.

6 pm Introduction & Online Showing of Premonitions of a Larger Plan
Which benchmarks can young artists – and young people in general – use to guide their self-development? Jacopo Godani’s work provides insight into the process of becoming an artist from a number of perspectives – that of dance as well as music. In this piece, extraordinary young musicians come together with the company to show how young people can make their dreams come true by focusing fully on their art.
