Kubus Quartett

The Kubus Quartett was founded by students sharing a passion for contemporary music at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Art (Hochschule Luzern, HSLU).

Since 2014, a busy European concert schedule has brought Ola Sendecki, Ruth Gierten, Liese Mészár and Trude Mészár to perform at the Donaueschingen Festival, the International Music Institute Darmstadt, the Lucerne Festival and the Herbstfestspiele Baden-Baden, among others. The Kubus Quartett also performed regularly in the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra’s pre-concert series at the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre (KKL).

Extensive collaboration with notable composers and musicians have provided the Kubus Quartett with musical stimuli, including the composers Georg Friedrich Haas, Dieter Ammann, Helmut Lachenmann and Wolfgang Rihm, and the musicians Sebastian Hamann (Hochschule für Musik Freiburg), Uli Fussenegger (Klangforum Wien), Patrick Jüdt (Ensemble Phoenix) and Lukas Fels (Arditti Quartet).

The Kubus Quartett is renowned for its challenging and wide-ranging repertoire as well as for performances in conjunction with other art forms. For example, in 2015, the quartet collaborated with the video artist David Sypniewski and is currently working on further projects for 2016-17 that include film, camera obscura, voice and harpsichord.
