“This very consistent, inspiring and powerful double evening allows us to get to know two different artistic styles. On the one hand, it picks up on many things that are currently on our minds (...) and on the other, it always opens up associative spaces that go far beyond concrete questions.” - hr2 Frühkritik

“As organically wondrous as the first, as energetically gripping the second contribution” – Frankfurter Neue Presse

“Wonderfully hypnotic!” – Wiebke Hüster, FAZ

Human encounters are always unpredictable. You eye one another, rush ahead, wait, circle each other, stumble, suddenly stop, start again - and maybe realize, ah, yes, we can understand each other.

The scenes in "À la carte" use different props, sound effects, music and lighting to allow for a variety of dance styles, atmospheres and topics. The starting point is always the encounter between the ensemble and the audience, just as if they were cooking a colorful menu together. The framework for this is Ioannis Mandafounis' dance methodology, which makes it possible to create a choreography live on stage. Almost nothing that the dancers do in this production is predetermined. All movements arise from the meeting of the different bodies.

"À la carte" was the first production by the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company under the artistic direction of Ioannis Mandafounis. With this work, the ensemble presents its dance practice, which is based as much on the exchange between the individual artists as it is on communication with the audience.

Press reviews

"From now on we'll call you DFDC! Soon everyone will know this abbreviation: Ioannis Mandafounis and the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company are off to a great start." - Wiebke Hüster, FAZ

"We will definitely remember this wild, fantastic, entertaining and ludicrous evening, the first of the renewed Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company." - Deutschlandfunk Kultur

"High-energy dance, moderation, audience questioning, singing and confetti rain: The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company has reached the next level with its new Artistic Director Ioannis Mandafounis, new dancers and the first production after the change." - hessenschau online

"The newly assembled ensemble has left its calling card. And what a one! […] Not unlike a hurricane, they stormed the large hall of the Festspielhaus. Just like that. In completely weird costumes. And with a kind of childlike amazement. […] It's obviously all about having fun. That goes for the ensemble as well as the audience.“ – Tanznetz
